Core Values of Rotary

Fellow Rotarians, October was a busy month for me as I prepare to become your President in July.

I attended two Saturday events this past month. On October 15, the Rotary President Elect Summit(RoPES) was held at the San Diego Yacht Club. It was an opportunity to meet and interact with a number of President Elects from around the district.

Then, on Saturday, October 22, the Rotary Leadership Institute was held at the Joan Kroc Center. This all day seminar(part 1 of 3 for me) had 6 sessions presented by by past district governors, and current DG Marilyn Sanderson. I will share with you highlights of the session on Ethics/Vocational Service, lead by PDG Carl Kruse. He reviewed the Five Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community International and Youth. He then related Core Values of Rotary as the relate to the Avenues of Service: Fellowship, Integrity, Diversity, Service and Leadership

PDG Carl then emphasized the importance of the Rotary Code of Conduct which can always be found on page 8 of The Rotarian and I quote:

As a Rotarian, I will

  1. Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life
  2. Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupation with respect
  3. Use my professional skills through Rotary to mentor young people, help those with dpecial needs, and improve people’s quality of life in my community and in the world
  4. Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians

High standards to be sure, but worthy goals for Rotarians. After all, high standards are what sets Rotary apart.
