Program: Rotary Foundation

cenPHSociety2459After the multiple Paul Harris Awards were given, Mary Geerdes introduced the Past District Governor, Janice Kurth, to speak about the Rotary Foundation and where our donations are used. Janice gave us examples in Nairobi, Kenya where the Rotary Foundation connects people and causes around the world. The Mission is World Understanding, Goodwill and Peace, with a focus on Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water and Sanitation, Peace and Conflict Prevention/resolution, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Economic and Community Development. 92% of all the money given goes to the programs.

The Rotary Foundation rates a 4 Star by Charity Navigator; it’s collective philanthropy allowing each of us to have impact that we could never have individually. 50% is District designated, with matching grants going back to Club Projects. 50% is for the World Fund, with the Rotary Foundation matching dollars.

As for Polio Plus efforts, as of last week there were 32 cases: 3 in Nigeria, the rest in Pakistan/Afghanistan. The numbers are dwindling. Our efforts have saved about 15 million children from death or disability. Our District 5340 leads in the highest Rotary Foundation giving.
