The Rotary Club of Escondido recently raised $194,000 at their annual fundraising gala, Coeur de Cuisine, at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.
The honorees, Danny and Norma Sherlock, were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community and their unwavering commitment to education, youth, and service.
Coeur de Cuisine has been the club’s main fundraising activity for the past 18 years and is a culinary celebration of service, honoring those who make a difference in the community. Each year, Coeur de Cuisine celebrates individuals whose dedication and service reflect the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self.”
Event preparation was led this year by James Wright, CEO of A Step Beyond.
The celebration began with a VIP reception for the honorees, followed by the main event, which included food and beverage sampling from 18 local businesses. The reception was sponsored by Vintana Wine and Dine. The evening also featured silent and live auctions.
Proceeds this year from sponsorships, ticket sales, and auctioned items totaled a record $194,000, which will be used by Escondido Rotary to support grants to local nonprofits, scholarships for Escondido high school students, and a variety of local and international service projects in coming years. Attendance exceeded 260 Rotarians, guests, and community members.
Honoree Norma Sherlock’s career included teaching preschool through second grade, serving as an exchange teacher in Guadalajara, Mexico, and mentoring future educators. She has also used her design expertise to enhance learning environments on school campuses and to help revitalize Boys & Girls Clubs across San Diego County and the Ronald McDonald House.
Honoree Danny Sherlock’s impact on youth in Escondido and San Diego spans five decades. He began his career as a group leader in college and eventually became CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. A dedicated Rotarian since 1981, Danny earned a master’s degree and an executive coaching certificate to further enrich his leadership and service.
Mark Baker commented, “The Sherlocks lead by example with their attitude of service above self as well as their endless commitment of over 82 years of community service.” Jack Raymond added, “Their leadership and service inspire us all.”
The Rotary Club of Escondido is composed of more than 100 business, nonprofit, and community leaders dedicated to making a difference. This year the club celebrates over 100 years of Rotary service in Escondido. In that time, Rotary members have completed hundreds of community projects, donated tens of thousands of volunteer hours, and contributed millions of dollars in grants and scholarships.
